You don't need a management system to use our templates. Pick the one for your task, add your details, and review it against your actual site before it goes out. If you run a formal HSEQ or ISO system, or you're building toward one, these are also made to slot straight in.
How do the templates handle document control?
Every template carries the things a management system expects from a controlled document:
- A unique document reference in the file name, so it can be logged and tracked
- A document control footer with the reference, version and page details
- Consistent naming and structure across SWMS, SOPs and JSAs, so they line up with the rest of your document set
That means you can drop them into your document register, set your own version and approver, and control them alongside your policies, procedures and forms. If you don't run a register, none of this gets in your way. You can ignore it and just use the document.
What is HSEQ, and how do SWMS fit it?
HSEQ stands for Health, Safety, Environment and Quality. Plenty of businesses run these as one integrated system rather than three separate ones, usually aligned to ISO 45001 (safety), ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environment). Our SWMS sit on the safety side of that picture, and they're written to fit alongside the quality and environmental parts of an integrated system, not to sit off on their own.
So if you already have an integrated management system, these read and reference in a way your auditor and your team will recognise. If you don't, they still work perfectly well as standalone documents.
How do you add SWMS to an existing management system?
- Add the template to your document register under its reference.
- Set your own version number, issue date and approver in the footer.
- Fill in the site-specific details and control it like any other document in your system.
- Review and re-issue it on your normal cycle, or when the work or site changes.
Do these templates give you a management system?
These templates are structured to fit into a management system. They are not a management system on their own, and they don't certify your business against any standard. Building and certifying a system is a bigger job. What we give you is documents that won't fight your system when you drop them in. Adapt them to your business either way.
